Akira, Resort 2012

Shibori pleating and dyeing, hand beading, sheer lace, gorgeous silks... the Resort 2012 collection for Akira is a beauty to behold.
"A garment can transcend, giving it a soul.

"I translate fabrics into soft and romantic silhouettes, using natural fabrics like silks and cottons, which are kind to the skin...

Akira was recently involved with the Australian Ballet production of Romeo & Juliet having worked on the range of costumes for this season.  The production is currently showing in Melbourne during September and then Sydney in December.  And of course, having read about this magical collaboration a few months ago and meaning to schedule a post about it, I finally did!  I wonder if I can get into a viewing before the end of the month?

It's obvious that she loves fabrics. You must have a special understanding of them in order to be able to design ballet costumes. Thank you for sharing this. Very interesting. :)
