Close up colour

A new lipstick goes a long way to enhance your look ... a new shade of bordeaux,  grape or wine and you've amped up your daily outfit for the new season.   Perfect for a grey day where the rain just comes and goes intermittently and a gorgeous final touch for that night out.

First it was all about a red matte lip during the late 80's (singer Sade anyone?), then it was a nude matte lip (Christy, Linda, Claudia on a Versace catwalk circa '90-'91?..) then Chanel seduced us with Rouge Noir (ooh, who can forget when that shade was released!).  Yep, been there done all that.  After a few years of matte we were sold on glossy, sheer, tint or slick... and now it's back to a deep plumy, wine shade of unadulterated opaque colour.  I love it!

Thing is... you need a fabulously clear, dewy flawless complexion to wear this shade - unless you want to go all goth revival!  So if you're going there and like me you're on the other side of 35 (ahem), and can remember that first release of Rouge Noir c1993, keep the rest of your face minimal (save for those lashes perhaps?) - and maybe blot as you apply this gorgeous shade in a sheer formula perhaps...

I'm off to clean up my makeup drawer!
