Hold onto your hats, or your turbans, or your headbands, its the weekend... and here are some fabulous reads and links that I've found this week.

+ Following on from the Resort 2013 shows this week, from sweet colour at Alberta Ferretti (here) to glamour tailoring at Zac Posen (above and here), this season might be about transitioning but the impact never lets up.  I think Erin O'Connor is magnificent in these shots chanelling a certain Avedon or Penn vibe.

Beauty In Strength, New York 1964 by Hiro

+  A look back at fashion photographer Hiro (Yasuhiro Wakabayashi) whose use of bold colour and graphic style paved the way to a job at Harpers Bazaar in 1957.  Having assisted his hero Avedon, and with a style reflecting a little Irving Penn, his bold images capture the new spirit and a different perspective of 60's and 70's fashion photography; more here via NY Mag.

+ Some subtle interior styling from Australian Lara Hutton featuring everyday objects and organic shapes via MaxConnectors.

+  Karlie Kloss for Americana Manhasset Luxury shopping, with inspiration from this years smash movie 'The Artist'.  The catalogue 'Speechless' will show Karlie in different storylines dressed in luxury 20's inspired looks that evoke the flapper era and scenes from the movie.  They even hired the Jack Russell terrier, Uggie featured in the movie to appear in these pics.   A movie will also be shown on their website from mid -August which will be timed for fashion week.   It's all about the 20's at the moment!  More images via WWD here.  Also check out the Americana Manhasset website for its current move featuring Karlie in 50's suburbia tv sitcom sketch.  Too cute!

+  Take a look inside Jacqueline Fink of Little Dandelion's home, filled with bright natural light, painted floorboards, vintage and antique finds.  Its the perfect setting for all those beautifully tactile blankets and scarves she makes - you can see more of her home via The Design Files here and more of her fabulous designs via the Little Dandelion website here.

+  My lemon tree is just about ready to be picked so I'm looking out for all sorts of 'lemony' recipes and this Lemon Polenta Cake doesn't disappoint - from the queen of the kitchen Nigella Lawson.

Home Style, Colourful eclectic in Madrid

I just love the colourful elements displayed in the home of Spanish interior designer Isabel Lopez-Quesada in Madrid.  In its previous life, the building was a wax factory (I just can't see it!) and since Isabel got her hands on it, it's been cleaned up, brightened, relaid with limestone paving, and injected with a wonderful palette of bright and fun colour.

I absolutely love the entrance - the bold artwork hanging on the wall for starters and that colour of the lighting fixture, and of course that beautiful ottoman against the wall.  The living room is so inviting with those lovely french doors opening out to the patio and letting in all that natural light.  And every window is devoid of furnishings to allow the beautiful views from outside to be enjoyed.   In the bedroom, its the fuschia coloured chaise draped with that stunning suzani bedspread.  So many different elements, the deco glass covered bedside, the antique drawing desk, the modern rustic bed and the napoleonic stool in front of the fireplace.  You've got to follow the link and check out the bathroom in the dappled light also.

And throughout, the lovely long, narrow arrangements of Fuschia - nearly every room has fresh flowers on display... it's just the finishing touch to a wonderful palette on display.  

"A house, like a person, should blend traditions and modernity"... indeed its all in the mix that makes it interesting.

Oodles of natural light and oozing chic, this gorgeous home in California pulls together mid-century with fun vintage pieces, a cool palette and some serious designer cred.   I just love it!

From the fabulous sitting room to the beautiful Bulthaup joinery in the kitchen and out to the covered area next to the pool (with chandelier)!! - it just screams, put on your flowing chiffon gown and mix some pre-dinner drinks... seriously luxe.

I think I can see myself here... no?

Home Style, Skylight House, Modern Light & Uncluttered in Sydney

Victorian Terraces are always popular, in Sydney and Melbourne,  both for their proximity to city centres and also for the opportunity to breath new life into them via renovation.  This terrace is no exception.  Designed by Sydney Architects Chenchow Little, this refurb of what's been dubbed the Skylight house with its use of overhead skylights and indoor/outdoor patios, shows that you don't have to have a huge block of land to play with.  Spread over multiple levels, the renovation brings the outside in by using fabulous oversized skylights in the ceilings, tall open voids, and opening up a side area with greenery and mature banksia tree that leads to another living area beyond the kitchen and dining area.  I love the look of the veneered (what looks like) walnut joinery in the kitchen and in the throughout the house and the concrete finishes.  Its all about the open areas seamlessly melding into each other.

Simple, uncluttered, bright and modern.  Quintessentially Sydney!  It was also awarded the Australian Institute of Architects, NSW Chapter Award for Residential Architecture Alterations and Additions this year.
