In The Schedule

The weekend's here and mine will be filled with a kiddie party, a long drive to the coast, dinner with friends, and some general laying about enjoying the weather.  Here's some links that I've stumbled on from this week's navigating... hope you enjoy.

+  I loved watching this video of Chanel atelier hard at work as they assemble four Haute Couture gowns shown earlier this week - needles at the ready girls?  View here at Fashionologie.

+ Have you been following Paris Haute Couture week this week?  Awash with colour, beading, applique, lace, feathers and everything in between, it's been a bit of an overload for me really.  I'm still sorting through a myriad of images that I've saved to my desktop (more of that next week!); but the one thing I did notice was aside from the big six houses, the lesser known names introduced their garments on noticeably older models - in this day and age - that's very out there isn't it?  More images via NY Mag..

And while were there, I loved the boldness, structure and architectural shapes and a mostly Black and/or White colour scheme at Stephane Rolland - view the video of the show here.

+  Glass Magazine gives us a rundown on the History of 'Resort' - is it really just a filler range for designers where they can experiment with colour and pattern and appear a little more frivolous as compared to the other 4 ranges they produce a year?

Dior Resort 2013

+  Love this 'before & after' view of celebrities that W magazine shows us.  It's what a bit of reality looks like amongst the glamour, a hair & make up person, and a publicist - see Kristen Stewart, Amy Adams, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard through the lens of 'realist' Juergen Teller and then juxtaposed with a glamour shot from one of their archives.  I feel soooo much better!

Juergen Teller / Alas & Piggot

+  I loved this montage of 2013 Colour trends that I saw over at Anya Adores - Emerald and Violet - my perfect of perfect colours!  (okay so maybe not all at once - wait,,, why not?)

+ Finally it's a long weekend here (Australia Day), so I'm getting out my baking tin and looking to track down the best Lamington recipe (Lamington's being one of the unofficial, authentic Australian cakes - the other being a Pavlova!)  So when I stumbled across this website, DeliciousDelicious, where last year they ran a 'Reinvent the Lamington' competition - well I just had to take note of the Tiramisu Lamington and give it a whirl.   Don't worry loves, if you're not into coffee, I do have my handy and very authentic 'Family Circle' cookbook that does indeed include an (anything but!) basic lamington recipe too.  Someone put the kettle on...!

Enjoy your weekend girls!  I'll have a drink for you all at tomorrow's dinner down by the coast...x

via

+ Nicole Kidman in a 'screen test' filmed by Lynn Hirschberg, covering topics such as acting methods, why she loves it, who inspired her, and never wanting to be governed by fear! - Bravo girl.  More subjects include Karlie Kloss, George Clooney, Clive Owen, Charlize Theron.. and loads more at W Mag.  I love the way Nicole still has that dorky laugh - very natural.

+  Feeling a little handy over the weekend, well not try your hand at these DIY cement lacey votives - so simple, so cute!  Via SayYesToHoboken here.

Eva Marie Saint by Philppe Halsman

+ Who hasn't seem some of these iconic images taken by portrait photographer Philippe Halsman of celebrities in  'jump' mode.  In 1954 Philippe took a photo of his wife and noticed that whilst mid-air the subject didn't or couldn't cling onto their 'camera face' so easily- the result, a project over several years photographing subjects jumping.  Subjects range from The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Jean Seberg, Audrey Hepburn and Salvador Dali.  Images are available for purchase via Laurence Miller Gallery here and more details of the project via here.

Hope your weekend is spent with loved ones near and far.

In The Schedule

Hold onto your hats, or your turbans, or your headbands, its the weekend... and here are some fabulous reads and links that I've found this week.

+ Following on from the Resort 2013 shows this week, from sweet colour at Alberta Ferretti (here) to glamour tailoring at Zac Posen (above and here), this season might be about transitioning but the impact never lets up.  I think Erin O'Connor is magnificent in these shots chanelling a certain Avedon or Penn vibe.

Beauty In Strength, New York 1964 by Hiro

+  A look back at fashion photographer Hiro (Yasuhiro Wakabayashi) whose use of bold colour and graphic style paved the way to a job at Harpers Bazaar in 1957.  Having assisted his hero Avedon, and with a style reflecting a little Irving Penn, his bold images capture the new spirit and a different perspective of 60's and 70's fashion photography; more here via NY Mag.

+ Some subtle interior styling from Australian Lara Hutton featuring everyday objects and organic shapes via MaxConnectors.

+  Karlie Kloss for Americana Manhasset Luxury shopping, with inspiration from this years smash movie 'The Artist'.  The catalogue 'Speechless' will show Karlie in different storylines dressed in luxury 20's inspired looks that evoke the flapper era and scenes from the movie.  They even hired the Jack Russell terrier, Uggie featured in the movie to appear in these pics.   A movie will also be shown on their website from mid -August which will be timed for fashion week.   It's all about the 20's at the moment!  More images via WWD here.  Also check out the Americana Manhasset website for its current move featuring Karlie in 50's suburbia tv sitcom sketch.  Too cute!

+  Take a look inside Jacqueline Fink of Little Dandelion's home, filled with bright natural light, painted floorboards, vintage and antique finds.  Its the perfect setting for all those beautifully tactile blankets and scarves she makes - you can see more of her home via The Design Files here and more of her fabulous designs via the Little Dandelion website here.

+  My lemon tree is just about ready to be picked so I'm looking out for all sorts of 'lemony' recipes and this Lemon Polenta Cake doesn't disappoint - from the queen of the kitchen Nigella Lawson.

Hope the sun shines wherever you are (it's just been beaming all day today, yay!); have a splendid weekend. x

Garden Party On... Stella McCartney Resort 2013

What a gorgeous way to show your Resort collection... a garden party in New York.

Florals, prints, brights, neons, whites and blacks, fringes, leopard print, and holographic material all come together in what looks like a school fete.  Carnival games, lemonade, games and a jazz band and of course a smattering of celebrities in the form of Anne Hathaway, Amy Poehler and the iconic and beautiful Lauren Hutton.

If this collection is about having 'standout pieces' Stella, then count me in for that yellow dress, the white double breasted, 3/4 length sleeve jacket, the leopard print shoes, a floral blazer and that gorgeous  black tuxedo jacket with the white piping detail on the lapel.

I hear the weather was a little grey?.. but I think you shone bright enough if you were wearing any one of these pieces from the Resort 2013 range.

More great images over at Fashionologie.

A nod to La Sophia...in black and white

If only I was at a resort somewhere in the South of France (away from this wet weather!) channelling a certain charisma and style - then it would be fitting for me to wear one (if not several) of these outfits from Temperley London's Resort 2013 range.  Aren't they gorgeous!

Black, White (and some colour) with a nod to Sophia Loren and the 1950's South of France.  Cool, calm and collected- strong silhouettes and particularly strong monochrome pairings (my favourite!).

More images at Fashionologie.
