Chic Chick... Sarah Harris

Everytime I see a photo of Vogue UK's Sarah Harris, I just want to cancel all my hairdressing appointments for the whole year!

I want to grow out my hair, leave it un-touched in the colour area, and let it just sway gently in the breeze as I walk confidently into the streets.  That's grey hair people, not blonde!

And sure there must some kind of maintenance involved so that the tresses add a bit of glamour and zhush to your look and don't look to brassy but rather soft and velvety, but it must be so much easier than checking into the salon every 6 weeks or so (or less!).  Right?

I was just having a conversation with a friend yesterday about when would be the right time to let it all go natural?  When will we let those grey straggly's be embraced whole-heartedly; when will we stop hiding them and hiding behind a bottle of dye?

If you have the right answer please let me know!

Something like this...

This is my favourite hairstyle... on Alexa Chung.  All front and centre, face framing, natural, soft, luscious, amber coloured, cozy and comfy.

I can't do glossy, perfectly straight, flat-ironed hair - it's just not me.  There is no scope for error, it looks too flat, it screams of perfection and having all the boxes ticked, ...  I think that says alot about me!  And I loved seeing those beautiful, wavy locks on the Bottega Veneta and Marc by Marc Jacobs runways last season, bringing back a bouncy, messy, full look to hair.

I've had a love/hate relationship with my hair and every time it doesn't do as it should, I vow to chop it all off next time I visit the salon.  I've had it cropped, super short (like Jean Seberg, like Charlize Theron, like Beyonce a few days ago); I've had it grown wavy and luscious down my back (like Miranda Kerr, like Veronica Lake); I've had it bobbed and layered (like Yasmin Sewell, like Sarah Jessica Parker); and currently, I usually wear it up in a bun with flyaways at the temple and sides (like Christy Turlington).

I'm not really fussed that much... It's been darkened, lightened, tinted, striped, foiled, curled, straightened... and even permed in the mid 80's (I don't know why because it is naturally wavy with a few curls!).  I read somewhere that women born under the star sign Aries like to frequently change their hairstyles - hmmm, I can vouch for that.

So when I spot a good looking photo of natural looking, awesome hair I file it away for next time; for when I'm nearly due to go back to the salon and say, ...'how about we try something like this...'.

After all, it'll all grow back eventually... I'm not fussed.

Ladies, if you please...

Where northern hemisphere Winter 2011/2012 featured furs, extravagant neon colours, obligatory BLAHK, rich cocooning fabrics and eye dizzying prints on prints on prints... this gorgeous editorial showcasing new Spring 2012 season garments for Vogue US beckons to our softer side ladies.

Pastel hues, textures, embellishment, modest hemlines - its a fresh ladylike view.  I just love it - and lucky us, because we haven't really finished with summer yet in Melbourne (fingers crossed), we can emulate these silhouettes right now.

But whilst the look is Mad Men-esque (below the knee, soft palette, feminine), and the background is modern mid-century (barcelona chairs); the beehive has been hi-jacked and rock n rolled and back-combed - just a little; and the shoes are still teetering and edgy.  I gotta say, I love it - though not sure that  rocking up at school drop off in the morning would be suited to this look - but then again....?  What's that saying... you can never be too overdressed?

A summery beehive

A gorgeous summery editorial featuring Aussie Nicole Trunfio photographed by Zoltan Tombor found via Fashion Gone Rogue.  I just love her modern beehive, the perfect length on that dress and those shoes.

The weather mimics our's today; all sunshiney and summery - just perfect for relaxing on the Labour Day long weekend and walking through the city streets and window shopping.  Well it wasn't going to be all window shopping but the one store I wanted to go into was closed.   So we had lunch as well and then I took my little orange gift box and brought it back home again - looks like I'll be going into the city  again later in the week.

Back to the working week

This week marks the end of summer holidays in Australia.  The tennis open has come to an end, the days are just about getting shorter, we're getting a mix of tropical weather by the time January melds into February and the stores are full of school books, shoes and uniforms.  

Yep, it's time to go back to work soon...but wait, it's still going to be warm, and you still have to keep it together right?  Slick back the hair in a ponytail or bun, find your perfect red lipstick and paint those short nails too, keep the silhouette simple and minimal with flashes of colour.  Fresh!

Would you, Could you?

A few weeks ago I was reading a post about grey hair on Garance Dore's blog...and here - having discovered a few grey hairs Garance was wondering whether to dye or not.  There were alot of comments thats for sure.  So it led me to think, would I, could I, leave my hair au naturel?  hmmm... what do you think?

Kristen McMenamy looks fabulous with her long grey mane and she's still modelling, see here - Mine isn't as fabulous or as grey as Kristen McMenamy's below, but I'm thinking ahead... Would this be do-able for you?

And come to think of it.... why is George Clooney still so Hot in all his naturalness (see earlier post), when grey hair on women is not!  No fair.
